    An interesting variant that I saw quite a while back and I was thinking that it could have been an albino variant. But on closer inspection, the eyes are not red!

    Yes, it is probably a result of mutation.

    Anyhow, this species is one of the typical fish from Germany, even though we could now find quite a lot of low priced ones in Hong Kong, imported from South East Asia and the mainland china.

    You mean these are farm bred fishes right? So how are the F1 compared to the parent fishes. I understand german fishes normally are given colour enhancer to enhance the colour.

    F1 normally refers to the first spawn off the wild caught parents. For Aquarium Strains, this generation classification has no logic. Something you might want to take note.
