    Hey BlueBlue;

    Nice Male you got there...Is it the only 1 pair of your wild caught A.diplotaenia collection??
    I have being wondering...you have mention saying that the performance of F1 of these Wild caught A.diplotaenia are not as good as their parent...In another words,they will not be as beautiful as their parent....But how about the performance of fries from the combination of 2 wild caught species??

    For example: F1 fries of "Rio Negro" X F1 fries of " Barcelos"

    P.s: I have being toying with this ideal since i have sucessful spawn from F1 of theses 2 species...
    Currently,i have fries from a pair of A.diplotaenia "Rio Negro" F1 and fries from a pair of A.diplotaenia "Barcelos" F1....so once they grow up,i will like to try this combination...

    Mine Idea:

    Fries from a pair of F1 A.diplotaenia "Rio Negro" X Fries from a pair of F1 A.diplotaenia "Barcelos".. So in another words, if i'm sucessful in breeding this combination, I will ended up with A.diplotaenia only...Therefore, i will like to find out the results of this action..

    You can do it. In nature, it probably could have happened if the locality are close and during flooding, some might swim over and vice versa and cross breed.

    And you lose the locality like you mentioned. But it would be nice to try as that's how farm-bred strains come about with the super red fin or high fin and colour morphs.

    Yup....i know that crossing of different species happens in the wild..Actually i was hoping that BlueBlue will have a species/results from this crossing..Than we will have a picture of this crossing results.

    Milk: I have multi pairs of wild caught and they are all reported to come from Brasil. Essentially, there're only two pure kinds of diplo. One from Brasil (Barcelos is nothing more than a collecting site in Rio Negro) and one from Rio Orinoco (Venezuela.). The one from Rio Orinoco is termed as A. cf. diplo and there are some vertical strips on the belly when the fish is frigthened... however, interesting enough, i have got some specimens which are reported to be from Brasil which also exhibit this property!!

    Could be that the fish is caught near to the border between the two countries in Rio Orinoco.

    it is one possible explanation. another is: They actually co-exist in many regions, and they could cross in the wild, too
