Nice looking pair BlueBlue....They look sooo small as compared to the driftwood at the back...HA..ha..Any sign of the eggs hatching this time??I thought i remember that you mentioned that the last spawn did not yield any fries...

This is one of my favorite species too and I once had the chance to babysit a large bunch for yorky, courtesy of Mick. But sadly, they did not manage to spawn successfully as yours did. Shame.

I.adoketa is a tricky species that it's not easy to get healthy fries successfully. I have got several pairs from multiple sources (Germany and Taiwan) and tried several times before ending with the spawning pairs.

The first batch of fries, unfortunately, turned out to be bad; the photo here is showing the second batch of fries which i feel
promising

Any tips for us in terms of a healthy spawn? I heard the water has to be clean and soft and there must be ample space. Quality food is of course a necessity.

The critical success factor is water quality and a quiet environment.

The pairs had spawned many times but all failed. I then rearranged the setting of the tank and included a more powerful filter, Eheim 2028 ProfII, and installed a sterilizer.

The pair inside this tank then spawned and fries were collected.

Nice see you back. This species of apisto is very challenging breed. Was wondering how big is the breeding tank for these guys. I just love the pattern on its face.

Hi Nic. Thanks. I used to breed this species in both big tank and small tank. The big one is 40 inches long, 20 inches wide and 20 inches tall.

P.S: Hmm, adoketa is a dwarf cichlid while it's NOT of the apisto family.

If you notice, it does not say Apistogramma adoketa, it's Ivanacara adoketa. An entirely different genus, not to mention species.

Humm...35L tank??!!So in another words,a 2ft X 1.5ft X 1ft tank will be sufficient to breed this beautiful cichlids??Other factor must be considered as well...Super good quality water and a comfirmed bonded pair...

I will definately try keeping 1 pair of theses if i got the chance..

Seems like the diet of these beautiful cichlid is as common as normal apisto...

Milk: In fact, keeping I.adoketa in an aquarium is not difficult. The only problems for this species are:
1. The very high mortality rate for wildcaught and so we seldom find genuine wildcaught of this species. Some guys keep on saying that they have
wildcaught from japan, germany, canada, Taiwan, or even Hong Kong (haha), etc... i myself have very serious doubts.
2. Breeding is always quite challenging. I would say that it's easy for the
pair to spawn but it is uneasy to get healthy offsprings...
