Hi, I have a question regarding sand.

I saw LFS sell sand in different color: white, dark grey, and brownish. Question: which one is lapis sand? Which of this type of sand inert? I got sand whitish in color and when pour vinegar on it and I can see small bubble.

Did some search in the forum and it is due to mixed with shell, is lapis sand also mixed with shell?

Mod, do I post at the right section? if not please move it, thanks

As far as I remember lapis sand is inert. Those other type of gravels sold in LFS with no labels are quite "risky" as nobody really know its content and makeup.

Lapis sand is sold in those gigantic packs with the words "Lapis Sand" written clearly on the pack. They do sell it in smaller packs but I got duped once when a small pack of lapis-sand-lookalike become a pack of gravel with crushed coral added in.

I believe the 'Angel' brand is quite common and comes in a more manageable 10kg bag.

Bro, put aside the packages, how do we differentiate the lapis-sand-lookalike from the genuine lapis sand?
    They both look the same..

Thought of using lapis sand but they are too expensive so I settled with the lapis-sand-lookalike.
What is/are the benefit(s) of using the genuine one?

I can't recall the price but I do know that it is too expensive for my budget probably due to its huge pack.
I only need a small amount of it so I got myself the lapis-sand-lookalike which comes in small packs and cheaper too.

I want to know the benefits of using lapis sand; why it is more preferred than the lapis-sand-lookalike..

    Benefits of using lapis sand?

I don't think there're any, except that it is inert and won't mess around with your water chemistry. Takes out some guesswork on the part of the hobbyist when things goes wrong and plants/fishes are not doing well.

There're folks who claims that you don't need to wash lapis, I can't comment on that because I washed mine. Oh yar, I remember reading some rather worrying warning on the packaging, can anyone recall? I took a pic of it, but it is in my home PC.

For the genuine lapis gravel you are pretty assured it is inert. For fakes you just run the risk of getting gravels that basically screw the water chemistry around.
