    Hi, everyone

I just set up my first shrimp tank two days ago. Brought a java moss (on a driftwood) and another plant ( don't know the name ) . The cherry shrimp will comes in tomorrow. Then these two mornings i look at the tank...don't know why the water turns a bit cloudy ... dirty...with some smell... change once already, yet this is the same today. looks like have to change before the shrimp comes.

    Anyone knows why.

It is just a very small tank. the height is 3/4 of a foot.

    Regards

It's understandable for a new tank for this to happen. Is there water movement? I don't see a filter or a pump.

Change the water. Your tank needs much more time before it stabilizes. I doubt the cherry shrimps will survive when they are added.

Turn on filter, add activated coal or charcoal inside filter, let it run overnight.

Also add a bit of those bio-bacteria..

Then add some multivit inside water when dark.

Hope this will help you stablise the water a bit before your shrimps come in..

maybe u can soak your DW seperately first? then once your filtration started running, then add it in?

Bro... you in here too... lol

back to the issue, if the DW is brand new, i would advise it to be wash it with boiling water 1st to kill all bugs, mites, fungus etc. then sun it if possible to dry.

tank size aint much a factor here neither the plants...

would suggest u get a small hanging filter to go along it to cycle the water.

use active carbon in your filter. It will remove the smell

it easily takes 3 weeks for the tank to stabilise.. Shrimps are exceptionally sensitive.. Hope they last.. Shrimp need clean water.. build up of nitrates from decomposing stuff in a new tank (without a complete nitrogen cycle) is a killer...

best thing to do is to do water change on a daily basis for about 2 weeks.. but use old water..ie tap water that has been in a pail for a day so that the chlorine will have escaped.. if you don't use old water the chlorine will kill the "good" bacteria that you are trying to cultivate.. then you will be back to square one.. 2 weeks is not too long..

    all the best
