for me, i will plant the tank very heavily and cycle the tank for 1 months without any fishes or shrimps.. after one month, buy some cherry shrimps and see whether the death rate is high or not. if everything goes smooth, get some crs..

    Hi,

My personal advice, maybe you want to get some bee shrimps (cheaper) and see whether they can survive in your tank. If the bee shrimps survived, I'm sure the CRS will survive too.

Can understand your excitement with your new tank, but sometimes, good things must wait....

You overfeed it? eat until the next morning? try not to feed too much as it pollute the water.. shrimps are very sensitive..

my shrimps tank i don't even feed them and they keep multiplying.. the most i feed them is once a fortnight.. they mostly feed on moss which have overgrown as i don't have time to trim them..

I cycled my old tank for 03 weeks & gave up... I just upgraded to a 03 footer & now waiting all over again...

I've read in a alot of Forums you must be patient... Even if nothing dies (Touch wood) it might still have effects on whatever you are keeping as the beneficial bacterial (BB) is not enough yet... Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates, etc could be still high...

A little story... My friend wanted to keep Marine Fish (Nemos, I know they are called Clown Fish) for his son... Within one week bought $500 bucks worth of fish... The next time I went over to his place (02 Weeks later)... He was only "Rearing" sand...

i have a 3ft tank rearing only cherries. I cycled the water for one month before putting 10 pieces of cherries in. I increase the number of cherries on a weekly basis. 10 pieces at a time. no casualties so far.

i just started a 2 ft tank not long ago with CRS , a few yamatos and 4 otos .. cycled it for 4 days till water parameters are stable and suitable before putting in CRS as they are very sensitive .... so far have cycled my tanks for just as long as water parameters are right and stable and didn't notice any casualties .. =)

I suggest you add filter media from existing fish tank to speed up the process. Adding water from existing tank is ok as well but not too much cos of the PH difference.

CRS water must be cold if no chiller don't waste money. My advise rear Red cherries shrimp, cheap and lasting.
