glosso, it grow very fast in my ADA soild tank. Not sure in other substrate
Hi all
I need a suggestion for a good Foreground plant.
I have tried e Tennellus, Normal Hairgrass and HC.
All have failed due to different reassons. For e Tennellus and hairgrass, i find that BGA starts to occur due to poor circulation. This is due to the lush compact growth within those plants. For HC, do not why but it does not spread. The way I planted it was on iron mesh at the gravel.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a foreground plants that is short but lush?

Glosso needs high light to crawl/look good. Otherwise you'll get glosso towers.![]()

Do you think my lighting is enough for glosso? height of my tank about 30 cm (from top of gravel to glass edge)

how about spiky moss? it does make a very nice foreground plant

48W should be just enough to grow glosso if you put the tubes over the plant. I'd normally recommend 30W minimum for a 1x1x1 feet tank. Your tank is 2x1x1?
If your T5 has individual reflector and has 'for plant' bulbs, should be ok at 48W.

hahah.. my 2 x 1 x 1.5h has 3x 39w T5Ho and 1 x 55w PL and the HC was pearling..... but bit of algae problem ahhahah... all my glosso and HC and hairgrass pearling ... the glosso turning white..... i think u can try the pygmy chainsword... not bad.... quite hardy and low demands... can even grow under dark areas!
wow 172W for 2ft, over kill, are you trying to cook your plants
Too much light, hard to control, algae will grow fast as well.
Cannot count as 172W. It should be lesser. 39W T5HO light tubes are 3ft and for 2ft tank, only 2ft of lumens from the T5 tube will be entering the tank.
This also show that WPG is not really a good estimate of the actual amount of light the plants are getting.
ok, didn't know that 39W T5HO length is 3ft![]()
I think the extra 1 ft is to light up room or nano tank beside it?![]()

ermm the luminaire is 2 ft long... but maybe with the holders. can extend to 3 ft...?!!
Height of tank is slighly higher than 1 ft.. about 30 cm form top of gravel to edge of glass...
THe other thing that is really funny is that I was wondering whether it's my yamatos that caused my HC not to spread....
Every other day I see a clump of HC at my filter.... not sure whether it's my yamatos...
If it is, I will remove my yamotos and wait for hc to spread...
Any comments on this? Is the lack of my HC growth due to my yamatos?

I'm sure your yamato's appreciate the small sized bites.![]()
Can almost be sure HC is yamato food. Should have no fauna disturbing the substrate while your HC takes root
