Hi bro yeoyl87,
Welcome to AQ forum.![]()
Platy don't eat moss. Some faunas that will feed on moss are SAE, snail and shrimps.

I am just curious and also maybe to start a thread for everyone to share their experience on fishes they regret putting in moss tank. This might serve as a warning for new people planning to start growing moss. Post your experience below.
i got a question. Does platy ( the common ones you use to feed arowana) feeds on moss?

In general cory like to do digging, so it will pull out new planted plant.
ALTUM ANGEL-newly moss introduce to the tank.

oh gosh, i got 2 SAEs inside to curb the brown algae epidemics. I forgot about them when i put in the moss wall. Thanks for reminder. 2 SAEs will make big impact? i think quite hard to catch them in planted tank. Too fast and too many place to hide

Young and small SAE won't eat the moss. But when it grows big, it will.

Good morning folks,
Was reading this thread and am quite wary about SAEs. Didn't realise they could cause a problem. May I know how big is big? Mine is 9cm long. Is it consider a threat to moss yet?
Thanks...![]()

hi yaya may i know big SAE is how big? what the size? my is small at 5cm

SAE regardless of size will eat moss.
Young SAE(3-4cm) will eat moss and algae.
Larger SAE(>4-5cm) will eat moss if they can't find fish food.![]()

SAE is to control algea, then how? Most of us wants to control algea as well as have a nice moss wall. help.![]()
Ohmine is an adult already!! Come to think of it... I have not trim my moss for months. No wonder when I compared what I have and what is being posted in the gallery. Theirs is so lush (so envy)... was thinking that maybe my water isn't cold enough. Now, realised probably I have a hairstylist SAE working inside.
But I seldom see the SAE going through the moss as it seems to prefer savaging my 'field' of Japan Hairgrass for food. So it never occur to me what goes on when the light goes off.

Whiptail catfish..aka Helicopter...
ripping all the moss off my wood...so that it can suck on the wood...

wa... start to regret to have SAE inside. I start to observe some hair like "thing" growing in small amount on my plant. They can exist in a strand or two. Is that hair algae?

yes it is hair algae. Regarding the SAE, imho the bigger size it is, it will eat the algae along with the moss. But smaller SAE will only eat algae.
