Just got myself two koi mollies. They went to work straight away at the green hair algae, it was really fun to see them go at it, like they were eating spaghetti. Think I will get another pair to join them.

Tadpoles love algae. BUT please be reminded NOT TO release the bullfrog tadpoles OR the adult frogs into the wild. Bull frogs are NOT native and they can grow big and eat anything that moves. Please please please do NOT release ant of these creatures!

Oh, juggling is hard work, man!...
I think Australia is overrun with bullfrogs. They're poisonous so almost nothing eats it and lives. [I might not be speaking of the same species!!]
Just one of the reasons Australia is very strict on fauna and flora imports.

You are talking about the cane toad from South America that was intentionally introduced to combat pest that was affecting the cane production. The problem was that they were really good, so good they multiply and ate everything else the diameter of their mouth and it isn't small at all. Furthermore, their skin gland excrete poison which is their protection.
American Bullfrogs are not poisonous, they are the same ones you eat in the claypot dishes. As they are alien to our native ecosystem (or what's left of it) and are highly versatile, they breed fast when conditions are good and it is good here.

Yes, its the cane toads.
American Bullfrogs are farmed here in Singapore and Malaysia, so it's not suprising to have them in the wild. Back to topic on algae eaters. One LFS claims that the Panda Garra now available is the best algae eater money can buy.Anyone can vouch for that?
Ever licked one?? its an awesome experience..mmmmm..bufonamine...
Frogs are very predatory, big ones eat big animals and all that. I wouldn't release it in our ecosystem, its actually farmed in Singapore (at Lim Chu Kang?) and i believe that the process allows many contaminations into the wild, luckily their long period as deliciously helpless tadpoles must takes down their numbers.
I don't know why anyone would make such a claim.Originally Posted by bryan

I like to add on, you have to adjust your CO2 intake when adding Seachem excel. Safest bet is to use a combination of everything, I don't think there is really one effective answer.
But Seachem Excel does not kill all algaes.
Don't think G. flavatra will clear all algae too, so it really depends on what algae as well. And they seem to have a liking for fish food after a while as well.
