    Hi

Just wanted to share with you something.. I had a terapin (red-ear slider) turtle, bought it about 3 years ago. Grew and fed it for so long, and it passed away 2 days ago due to my own fault. arrgh so regretful.

It was happily swimming in a 4 feet tank with another turtle. well decided to put some toman and peacock bass in the 4 feet tank (just caught from reservoirs) and so i put the turtle on the balcony outside. Left it there for less than 2 days. I completely forgot about them, and when i go to look for them , they were behind the tank in a small space. The big one (jojo) was slanted and seem stuck, and it was revealed it was dead.. I still do not understand why it died. It was not crushed, could have still breathe etc, but it was only slanted and stuck and it died. aiyo!

Lucky the other one, though slanted, was still alive, and I put it back to its house.

It is painful when you see your loved pets die. Hold it in my hands for about 10 mins hoping for a comeback, but to no avail.

Regretable indeed. At least it did not suffer long.

Well. I had a red ear slider with an eye infection. It was a long drawn battle and really heart wrenching to see it searching for food that's right before it's eyes. Obviously the infection won after about 4 to 5 months.

    Cheers,

Understand how you feel now, i just got a black ranchu whom just die like that with no syndrome at all last thurdays.

Wife happen to found that the "boy" was not swim and laying motionless in the pond. I used my palm to scoop it up without the usual struggle and i knew it intantlly, i was gone.
Checked for the possible cuts, physcial injuries, even check the gills [Light pink- no black patches(gill infection)].

Remain sad for the whole week, blaming myself for not spotting it is ill. But soon i got better after look at the remain 2 that still swimming actively.

    Cheer up mate!

Ya most probably heat and dehydration then, since my balcony is hot in the afternoon. Shit, i thought they could like longer without water and exposed to sun since they enjoy sunbathing for long hours!!! weird.

Might also be something they ate on my balcony!

Heat can kill as they are unable to regulate body temperature. Instead, they'd sun themselves till they feel warm, then they'd plunge into the water to cool down. Since yours got stuck, it probably overheated.

Keeping Tomans and Peacock bass with small creatures are not a good idea too. These are predatory creatures. I'm sure you know the 2 different sets of teeth your toman has (BTW, I see, you are improving in your catch rate, congratulations!) the fine ones for holding prey and the big curved ones behind for puncturing. And Tomans do eat terrapins if they can get them. It will be a good idea to move the remaining terrapin or the toman out of the tank.

I feel sorry for your loss. I've had a terrapin die on me from overheating before and I know what a wretched feeling it is to see life breathe out of it.

    Cheer up soon.

Precisely, this is why i took out the terapin. I had yet to clean the 3 feet tank where i hosted the fishes initially before putting in the turtle, since there were some lapis sand, and I know that my turtle would eat the lapis sand thinking it is food. but i did not clean the tank on time to put them, this is why one of the turtle died.
