    Hi all

Just wanted to let you know that the above pair i bought yesterday from Biotope has spawned on me.....

Female is chasing everyone away. The male is hiding in some corner and I cant take it out unless I remove the DW in the tank...i tried to feed but i guess the female is not letting the male come out at all...the last time it did, the female chased it all round, thank goodness i have a net covering the top of the tank, else the male would have jumped out...

I will monitor a day or two to see whether i want to do that cos the tank is rather small (1 ft cube)...

Worst of all, I am leaving for Japan this Friday nite and coming back the sunday after (8 days)... this batch may or may not survive....

Aiya.. what to do.. previous agassizii was gay.. this one is too horny... i suppose i can't have it all....

Any advice? Should I remove the male? I am tempted to, cos i do not want to come back from Japan and see the male go heaven...

you should remove the male! if not it might die from stress or maybe loss some of its natural colouration due to stress! it wont be able to eat

if the female is constantly chasing it around, maybe you should get a larger tank my pair in a 1.5 ft tank seems to be doing okay even when the

female is in the nasty mood. or you try to put a cave in for the male to hide from the vision of the female? my female did not chase the male unless the

    male is sightedby her.

The male is able to hide out of sight from her, but when he comes out, he will be chased into hiding by her....

    should i take him out?

if you take the male out it means you'll have to remove the drift wood right? then wont that disturb the female? it might gobble up the eggs!

if its possible i think would be better to remove the male since you wont be home to monitor the situation.

    I have got a question

    1. How do Apistogrammas fertilize their eggs? Do the female lay eggs and then the male spray their sperm over it? If that is so, then i can be sure that this male is the father, as the eggs are laid in my cave. If the eggs are fertilized when the femals is carrying them, then the male that I have may not be the one...

    Can anyone comment?

No worries jeff, normally the female will chase the male away and guard the cave closely after fertilisation.

Congratulations on your spawn. Let's hope the other pairs which the forumers bought are also ready to spawn too.

Okie...tank size a bit small since the female have spawned..If the tank is heavily planted and sufficient place to hide,it should be a problem(I mean really heavily planted and with lots of places for the male to hide..)and if there's other fishes inside, the male will actually help the female to guard the eggs or fries..but since you are going to japan for 8 days rite?I think the eggs will just hatched when you returned and be expected to see some wrigglers. so no worries lor..

    regards

    Hi Jeff,

    Congrats to you.

Is better to remove the male out and I know how difficult it is.

I would suggest that you get a bottle of fry food (liquid fry No 1), when you are away, ask your wife to help you drip a drop or two into the tank. This will provide food for the fry until you are back. The you can switch to BBS.
