If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.

I've seen the question "can I have two tanks on one external filter" quite a few times now, it's becoming kind of an FAQ. And the answer remains the same: yes, but anything except an overflow system is somewhere between hard and impossible to set up and bound to fail over time.
I also want to point out that the filter is not only for mechanical and biological filtering but also for water movement, mainly but not only for oxidisation. If you install a powerhead to generate movement you might as well install a second filter. If you install an air pump for oxidisation you might as well install two sponge filters on one air pump and save yourself the trouble.
Cheers

Hi all, was thinking about doing this also. What if we use controlling valve at the input abd output pipes?
you need overflow system, otherwise hard/imposible to control.
But I don't think it is good for planted tank because you need good circulation in the tank. You can and power head to improve circulation but then the cost would not be much different or even more than getting another filter![]()
