    Wink

I think a hang-on filter will be good enough for small tank.

    Hi,

For a 1ft cube tank. An eden 501 is sufficient for it.

Eden can support up to a 1.5ft tank

I'm using a very small OHF for my nano CRS tank, don't know the brand though but it isn't Ehim. Controlled the valve so as the outflow is nice and smooth. I have the outflow land on a lttle bogwood so as to cushion the impact.

If you want to go canister, there is also the Eheim 2211. Nice and cute. But if price is an important criteria, go for a HOF.

My CRS tank is way smaller than yours, only 18cm in length. Am using a HOF with some medium replacing the sponge and loads of moss. Here's a little of my experience I encountered.

After I have the tank cycling for about 3 weeks, I put Bee shrimps to test it out. (Bee shrimps was recommended by Y618 as they told me that CRS actually comes from bee shrimps and they have almost characterics as CRS, also cheaper) Well, the bees died on me within a week. At which ph was about 6, but the ammonia was ultra high....seems that the substrate I used would cause a spike when its new (some Jap brand but don't know name).

It took me about 2 months before I could proudly put some CRS in..and even then, I have my doubts and they're C grade. The CRS is well and alive in my nano tank for over 3 months.

IMHO, you have to make sure that the tank is well cycled (no spike) and eyeball the ammonia. A little is too much for small tanks. Currently to play safe, I add in a drop of Ammonia Free from SeaChem when I top up or change water.

Hope my experience can help you save some money...

    Ya I know that.
I am also thinking of using some "not-so-hardy" shrimps to test out first before I actually go and get the CRS.
Don't want my first batch of CRS to end up as casualties. =)
    Thanks for your suggestion bro.
But why do you remove the sponge ? Cause my feel is that there's no mechanical fitration in your tank?

Opps, a little confusion... I do have a thin layer of sponge as my first call of defence to debris collection (which I change once a month). After which I replaced the other portion with ceramic rings to encourage active bacteria.

personally.. i would just use the 501. My theory is.. more filtration would probably not hurt anything..but less..and you get into problems.

I don't see a need for a mass order of this filter as currently the LFS are carrying it. Furthermore the pricing are quite reasonable

There are some other small external cannisters in the market. Resun and Boyu has one model each. Designed just like the Eden 501 but with a flow rate of 200l/hr. Perhaps you can try them. Colourful has the Boyu one.
    There can only be ONE
