My 2ft planted tank was growing well...and so do the algae and mostly on the walls of the tank.

Riccia lawn bubbled every nite....very very nice to see.

My lights(2x26w) and CO2 are on for 10 hrs a day.

    Any recommendations to combat algae?

    Any algae eater to recommend???

algae team: SAE, Oto & yamato.. u might wanna try Oto and yamato first.. SAE grow to ard 10cm or more.. and once they tasted commerical food or anything except algae, they tend to stop/minimize feeding on algae.. but it is oso said that SAE comsume the widest species of algae

if u really think u got prob combating algae, then reduce fertilization and lighting..

You can get some Oto to help you clean the tank glass. But as a new setup, algae tends to grow faster on the glass because of excess nutrients. So help to do some scraping using a phone card in the mean time. Over time, the algae will be less when your plants are growing well. Do you have some fast growing plants that can help remove excess nutrients in the water?

    Thanks Juggler.

Will get some Otos. Do u think Petmart sells them?

And for places where it's inaccessible for phonecards to clean the algae, can oto do the job?

    hello everyone,

hi newbie, did you say your tank is still cycling? then u might need to get some more cheap fast growing plants to suck up all the excess nutrients first.

after you tank has settled, if the problem still persist, you might need to check you CO2 levels. very important from my experience.

manual cleaning is still the best for film algae. IMO Otos eat algae but the extent they eat is quite unobservable to human eyes.
    hope this helps.
