Awaiting your pictures of your altum angels.
Can could you pm me the price you paid for them.
Thanks.
Yesterday, I've got 6 pieces of "Altum" Angels. Gosh, they are a beauty. Big and nice clean body.
Brought home and a quick simple aclimatisation of abt 1/2 hr, released them in my 4ft tank with 2 discus. They were swimming around with 2 pieces locking jaws and flabbing their body parallel. I was kind of taken by surprised. They are supposedly to be frightened and hiding in a corner as most feedback trend in that manners.
Anyway, soon after, my tank lightings on timer auto switch off, they mingled with the discus. And i've forgotten to feed my discus that day, i fed them with frozen blood worms after defroze. The "Altum" Angels rushed for the food. Wow, this is truly a surprise again. The characteristics behavior are different from what I've saw but this is truly a excellent thing for me though.
This morning, I saw them playing and posing in the tank.It amused me. hahaha... Well, it seems this batch are really in tip top condition. I was worrying that this would be a critical fish to maintain. Do hope this 6 pieces would further delighted me still...perhaps spawning... hehehe..
Shall post an update with their pictures in due course....

I might be wrong but I read from somewhere (can't really recall, its either in this forum or somewhere off the net on a discus site) that angels & discus can't cohabit in the same tank, reason being is that angels have some parasite in their bellies that they're immune to but the discus are susceptible to.

Thanks for the tinkle.
Anyway, other than that, we have so much more of other stuff too. So i guess, take it as a pinch of salt and enjoy the hobby, a taste of nature brought indoor. Its an area of exploration and understanding nature in a selfish manner.![]()
*Ahem* some food for thought...

Well, that cleared up some doubts of mine for sure![]()

Hi, like to check some information.
Have a pair of "Altum" angels in the groups, flabbing at each other dancefully and locking jaws many occasion in a playful manner (like apistogramma flaring), what in the manner does this gesture means?
Pairing? within such a short time after they have been placed in my 4ft tank less than 3 days? They are doing very well and eats alot. Always mingled with my discus. oh yes, my discus pair are flabbing at each other also... gosh... Seasonal mating?
Your sharing of experiences is appreciated.
thanks...![]()

Hi,
I hesitated to point this out to you. Looking at the pictures and from the description of your altums, it gives me the feeling that they are not real wild altums but more the domesticated altum look-alike or some LFS called semi-wild altum.
Hi blim,
What are some of the tell tale signs that led you to say this?

Hi,
Noted your comment and many thanks.
Please be informed do not take the above fishes as altum angels as indicated in the photo. And it is not semi wild but I would not want to make any rash judgement on it as it is another specimen of its own right.
Regrets for the inconvenience.
Cheers,
Daniel
Looks like what they called as long nose angels?
blim, they do have the charactistics of an altum, although they are not of the best condition for that size.
The jaw lock and flarring is to establish the social hierachy within the tank, common in all cichlids.
I have experience both discus and altum within a 6ft tank and I can clearly comment that both species cannot co-hab the same tank, simply because of the feeding behaviour and timid-ness nature of the discus.
feed and fat the altums up if you want to see them in full glory
Blim has made an effort to highlight, and it is a good thing he brought to my attention. As i've mentioned before, it is another specimen of its own right. Thanks, blim.
Moderator, kindly closed the thread.
thanks.

Nevertheless i must say that you have gotten very nice fishes there.
Thanks but again what I really want utimately is the Altum Angels. Would like to have the majestic fishes which i first saw display tank (by Aquatic quotient) in Teo's Aquatic...
I shall try to post the differences after I obtain permission from the writer at finarama forum.
Cheers...![]()
You might have to contact Gan's aquarium to know when the new batch is coming.
My apology. I looked at the snout and formed an opinion. My experience with altums is less than a year and I have not seen enough to make the judgement. Daniel enjoys his altum angels and he is sharing his happiness with us. I made an uncalled for comment which is totally irrelevant to Daniel's thread.
Not to worry about that, well your experience with altums may be less than a year but your judgement somehows prick me into deeper reflection. I do have my doubts though but i brush it off since i was sold as altum angel.
It is always the newbie's luck. like the chinese saying (dun take it as an offense) " Silly people always gets the luck while smart people always ended none" Perhaps smart people too caught up by vast knowledge and got blurred in the process while a newbie knows nuts but with observation and curiosity, they saw something straightaway.
Again, I still thank you as I have forward the picture to another overseas forum which focus mostly angel fish. It is confirmed to be another specimen of its own rights. Nothing wrong with the fish, its just me wanting to own altum angels, that is all.
The writer has forward me a visual link of angels fish at one glance. you can see the differences from there. http://www.finarama.com/tba/identification.htm
Thanks.
Cheers,
Daniel
