My eheim 2213 makes a "humming" noise every ten mins or so..and can see water rushing up the tube. Someone told me this is due to the canister clearing air in the canister. Do anyone else have this problem? I get this problem when I tilt the canister too.

yes, you can clear the air by tilting the cannister a little. Are you using CO2 injection? I suspect CO2 is escaping from the water in the filter and collecting at the top as I keep getting "air" soon after I clear it by tilting.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

The "humming" is quite consistent and keep coming back every 10 mins or so even after I tilt it to clear the air? Or do u mean leaving the canister tilted for a while? I not using co2 injection...

    1. Try re-priming your filter.

    2. Does 2213 come with Eheim vaseline? My 2222 came with a tube of vaseline which the manual says to apply around the rubber seal before closing the filter.

Usually after some months, my 2222 will frequently leak air in and the water flow stops. The problem is solved after I reapply some vaseline.

I also suspect that your filter is not closed tightly enough and is leaking air. The filter should clear it's air by itself after you run it for a while. My Ecco 2235 does.

Any chance it is due to the pressures? Cause my 2213 put abt the same level as my tank's water level(I.e abt 4 inch fr water level to top of cannister) but the water flowing well(I think) so I just leave it there.[:]

my ehiem 2213 "produce" a humming noise too .. and sometime sound like the propelle is hitting on something [] .. this is very irriating specially at night as the sound is quite loud.(worst as the tank is in my room)

anyone else using a eheim 2213 here encounter the same problem?

I oso notice the sound gets louder if I try to control the in-and-outlet valve (to reduce the water flow in the tank).. not sure this will damage the filter or not?[:0]

no sure abt the water level.. need to check.. but I guess not. cos' I do a air-clear procedure before I on the filter (initially)..

Before I ON the filter, I "suck" some water from the tank (using my mouth) and then quickly connect it to the inlet of the filter and wait until I see water come out from the outlet (I see bubbles come out of the outlet tube in my tank during the waiting time).. then after you see water from the outlet, then I ON the filter.. I guess this way you will remove all air within the filter..

Did you control the water flow by adjusting the control valve?
    How big is your tank?

I did the same priming process as u leh and observe the same thing(bubbles with water rushing thru).Use a light torch to shine at the canister, that way easier to see the water level.

I didnt buy the valves, hoping to get some fr eunos's hardware shop, those DIY stuffs. Saw the valves at $17.5 each(need 2 so x2=$35!!) at C328, a little ex leh.

    This is getting tiring,,,
[] After I shake it up real violently...the humming Still comes but only at longer intervals..think canister either spoilt or not primed properly..sianz[]

First must ensure the water level is filled all the way. I really mean all the way!!! To fill the water all the way to the top; here is what you can do. I did this before and my problem solved.

    1) Off the main power to the eheim filter.
    2) Closed both the in and out valve.
    3) Then, remove both valves.
    4) Press down the handle to remove the filter head.
    5) Fill the canister with more water.
    6) Put back the filter head and lift up the handle slowly.
(Notice that the excess water will flow out of the in/out openings.)
    7) Put back the valves to the filter head.
Adjust the valves to the open position.
    9) On the main power for the filter.

    That's it and good luck.

Hope this will solve the problem you have.

    actually
    i had the same problem
you might notice the sound getting worse when you reduce flow to the filter
i simply extended the filter intake about 20cm down and the flow increased, taking the noise along with it
    inaudible at night
