More plants!!!
More HC.
Some crypts to cover the base of the bogwood will be nice.
You can also consider pushing the bogwood more into the substrate.
Or abit of nanas on the bogwood will make the bogwood not so naked.
Hi all
Please take a look at my newly re-scaped 2 ft tank...
Concept: HC lawn with bogwood as a center piece. Back of bogwood is vallis nana. 2 branches with flame moss. I have planted the HC but not sure whether it's enough. I planted a few plants 2 cm apart.
Tank Parameter:
1. 2 ft tank
2. Lighting: T5 24WX2 tubes
3. CO2: 1.5 bps
Flora:
1. Vallis Nana
2. Flame Moss
3. HC
Fauna:
1. Rasboras Espei X10
2. Males Apistogrammas X 4
3. SAE X 1
The 2 flower pots is to weigh the bogwood down. I soaked the bogwood for 1 month and thought it would sink.. I was wrong and only found out on my scaping day.

You can soak your wood in hot water for about 15 minutes, that might help to sink the wood. Alternatively, you can place a big rock in the centre and start planting the flame moss on the branch tops immediately. When the woods has completely soak through, you can remove the rock and use it as a hardscape in front of the wood. Remember to tie sparingly with the flame moss, they grow fast under good lighting.

Yes, i intend to do the crypts and nanas but the stupid bogwood still cant sink and it's hard to do any plants round or on it.. but once it's sinks well, i will do that... similarly, cant push bogwood in substrate when it does not sink well..
I have HC planted in the whole lawn already, at 2 cm intervals. i cant think of adding more plants. so are you saying that i should add more on top of the HC?
Junglemania:
It just takes 15 minutes of hot water?
i do not have a pail that is big enough to soak the bog wood in hot water.. unless I boil a lot of hot water. the branches of the wood is bigger than the top of the pail and prevent me from pushing it in...
Any suggestions? how long do you think, the wood needs to stay in the tank to sink well? it does not float entirely up as i have soaked in a pail for 1 month already.

Use a big rock to keep the bugger in place.
Then you can carry on with your planting of the crypts.
Why do 2cm interval? 1cm interval will be easier for the HC to form a lawn right? 2cm is still pretty far considering the size of the HC.

OK.. will add in more HC this weekend...
will look for small crypts later and nanas as well... will nanas survive well if i tied on the bogwood considering i have such high light on top of it?

No issue with lights on nanas.
Tie some moss to the flowerpots, might have interesting results![]()

You can always soak one side first, get a new batch of hot water to soak the other. There is no actual time to soak a piece of wood. Just from my experience, that it is about the same time the water has cooled off to have any effect and that the wood has significantly become more 'dense'. It is not a fixed rule of thumb, but it works.

Cheers,

your bogwood looks great.... what kind of bogwood is this if you don't mind asking? i'm still very new in this hobby.....
planning to get one soon....
The funny thing was i did not tie the nanas initially.. in the pic that you saw, the nanas were stuffed in the bogwood
Dont know how to answer that question. it's bogwood in the local fish shops in Spore. pretty common. it's not driftwood by the way.
eman, i like the word hiding places.. then i can buy more male apistogrammas...![]()

Good point... will ensure that tonight...
does anyone know roughly how long it takes for the BW to totally sink?

I bought a piece of BW for my neighbour and that didn't sink as well (for months). I tied a piece of rock under it, stuff it into the sand and had some fore ground plant to 'cover' those exposed parts of the rock.
