Not too sure abt fiddeling with the inlet flow, but what I do, is tt I channel my inlet to a rain bar.
It helps to disperse the water flow. I set mine near the bottom, with the hooles pointing slighly abgled up, so as not to disturb the substrate[]

Hi all,
anyone can tell me how to reduce the flow rate of the conister filter and yet will not damage the filter (eg overheating)
The reason :
my only a 2ft tank. The normal flow rate is too strong for my planted setup.. heard from friend that by turning down the flow rate at the in and outlet might overheat or damage the filter.. is this true?
Current using a Ehiem 2213 Conister Filter
anyone, pls advise.. thanks

The key to success is patience. If that fails, screw the guy in front of you!!

rainbar is a good idea,do not use the stopper at the end of the bar. but the other way is to get a valve in between the output pipe and control the flow rate from there. but u can also let the output pipe blow against a big rock or sides of the tank.
To each her own fish !
