Last friday, I bought two neons. I placed them in a half gallon bowl. But being new to fish, I didin't check PH. They both died the next day. Any advice?

There are lots of articles on cycling of tanks and new set-ups. Please do a search and you will find out lots...

There are so many reasons why the fishes could have died

    1. If you did not acclimatized the fishes before you put them in the half gallon bowl. the difference in water condition would have killed them

    2. Fishes were sick in the 1st place

    3. Water not cycled.

Very often, new set-ups fail because the tanks are not cycled well. Also, having such a small tank, chances of error are rather high..

Do not be disheartened. Fish once settled in tanks, usually last very long. It's all part of the learning process, but once you get it right, you will find it very rewarding

I wasn't surprised when I found them both dead. But a little worried about my other three fish.

Thank you for that info wasabi8888.
