Forgot to say, that I plan to mist with a sprayer few times a day in the initial stage until the plants convert.
Hi
I decided to setup my first vivarium today. I am really new at this, so i decided to keep it very very simple until I get more experienced. My title translates into "mystery island"
Aquarium size: 2*1*1.5 feet.
Lights: 27 watts PL
No filter yet
Mister
Driftwood, Java moss, Java fern, Various crypts.
I have a box where i intented to put the mister (fog machine) but the fog was not spreading well, so I put it in front. Maybe I will add a filter in that bod, or put soil and grow plants.
Here are some pictures.
Basically, it is just moss on DW (most of them not even tied), and ferns and crypts placed randomly. I just want to see if the humidity can be maintained through the mister before going into more complicated setup. Much later, I intend to put more vivarium plants.
And of course I will add a background too. will have a grill (which forms the top) to be put as background, then have a few creeping plants on it.
If anyone has more ideas for that let me knowAnd also would be grateful if i can buy/get some viva plants. If this project goes on well, will make a 4 feet vivarium.

Great Setup dude..very pleasing on the eyes..
Some more pictures...
All these because i was 'inspired' when i visited 'Night safari' two days ago.
nice! keep up the hard work!![]()
Cheers,
Andrew
If you have red plants, it will look like a volcano crater!
I'll try to add more plants as I get them. For those that need soil, will put them in pots and will insert them in. Hopefully will make a trip down to Teo to get plants from thier emersed form.![]()
very very nice one. now i know this type of tanks are called vivariums. have been wondering what in the world are vivariums. haha.
Err, gills... There are LOTS of examples in this sub-forum leh...
Read me! http://justikanz.blogspot.com/
I'm crypt collecting... Starting cheap, now have Cryptocoryne beckettii, C.beckettii var petchii, C.crispatula var.balansae, C.griffithii(Melted!), C.nurii, C.parva, C.pygmaea(Melted!
), C.tonkinensis(Melted!
), C.walkeri, C.wendtii 'Brown', C.wendtii 'Green', C.wendtii 'Green Gecko', C.wendtii 'Tropica' and Cryptocoryne x willisii
Oh, juggling is hard work, man!...
Hmmm.... had a hand at trying to construct a vivarium also apparently mine didn't work out as well as I used soil and alot of land plants...
Just a point to note... Do your research of the type of plants first before introducing them. Mine was a marsh biotppe, meant for salamanders, with quite a few epiphytic plants which are kind of xerophytic... BAAAD combination... learnt my lesson after they died one after another.
Probably need to revamp mine soon... reconstruct the piping and all...
