This is my first time to stay over night in a Bidayuh village in a remote area at Banjaran Bungo (Bungo range). On the first day, we hiked for 6 hours to a Bidayuh village which is located around 2,500 feet above the sea level near Southern Sarawak - Kalimantan Barat border. The second day.....even worst! We hiked 4 hours into the jungle and then took us another 5 hours to return to our starting point. I finally broke my own record of hiking for 9 hours in a day !!!!

Banjaran Bungo (Bungo range) is one of the beautiful mountain ranges in southern Sarawak:

    Bamboo bridge crossing.

One of the waterfalls in the valley. There are too many waterfalls near the border but we don't have time to visit those waterfalls unless we stay there for a week.

    Hiking to the misty mountain:

The Bidayuh village is surrounded by the mist. It was about 26 degree celcius. This is one of the oldest Bidayuh settlements in Sarawak. Bidayuh is the land Dayak. In the ancient time of Borneo, Bidayuh people built their longhouse & houses at the top of the hill & far away from the big river as this is the good strategy position to prevent the enemy from attacking them.

6 of us from the city were invited to stay over night with a bidayuh family. I was surprised to see their kitchen got a fireplace. In the urban area, I don't think I can find a house got a fireplace anymore. On the top of the fire is the smoked civet cat's meat. None of us dared to try civet cat's meat.

Enjoying dinner with my outdoor friends. The handsome guy at the corner (far right) is Jungle Mike. Hee!hee!

The main reason we came to this village is to see this 9 old ladies who are wearing brass on the arms & legs. I don't think I can find women wearing brass in other places in Sarawak except here.

The lady showing us her brass. (she was a bit drunk after drinking tuak or rice wine)

According to her husband, the brass is imported from Singapore !!!

Even they are old, they are very friendly to everyone ....& even pose for you when you want to photograph them. They love to eat betel nuts, thats why their lips are very red.

I feel like in the heaven when I woke up & see this : sea of cloud !!!!

Time to adventure: Walking pass the giant bamboo forest. This place is infested with leeches but luckily, nobody got "kiss" by those leeches.

I believe the whole genus has that weird arm-like structure making them look like Weeping Mary.

Thanks all for viewing my photos.

Close-up photo of small inflorescence Cystorchis sp. (orchid) It was found growing on a slope near a stream, very near to the trail but nobody notice it as the leaf is just like leaf litter.

The flowers of Dendrobium anosmum (orchid) from the nearby area:

The climbing aroid, Scindapsus pictus .

    Another aroid, Schismatoglottis wallichii.

This cute little pitcher plant, Nepenthes ampullaria is almost white colour!

Red Nepenthes ampullaria with yellow peristome. This is rare in that area!
