    Hi all,

I just traded in my calvus, compreccisseps and brichardies for 7 troheus moliro on the weekend. They are about 5 cm and I house them in 3'X2'X20" tank.
I think I'll get a few more to reduce a change of an indivudual fish being harrased constantly when they grow up and some spare just in case some die.
    Anybody here keep tropheus?

Hi ikan, do you have a pic of your tropheus? can see? where did you get them? i have never kept them before but i think tanganyikans are beautiful fishes ... imo, closest to colors of the marine world. Do you know which lfs got the most tanganyikans, especially tropheus species?

    Sorry, I don't have a photo yet.
I live in Australia so I can't tell where to get fish in Singapore.
But every time I visited Clementi fish shop I always see some tanganyikan cichlid like Calvus and compreccisseps.
I saw nice tropheus at some of the shops near petmart I don't know if they feed them with colour enhancer though.

Moliro belongs to Tropheus Red family but some people include that in the moorii family. Hopefully they look nice when the mature up since the juvenile colouration will change.
I wouldn't say Moliro is the most colourfull one since it only has red with black background. They others that I like better but it's more expensive. Considering you will need group of 10 say, the capital layout is quite a lot.
So I'll like to see how these batch go before I get other varieties.
If you want to keep them don't buy less than 6 of the same species otherwise the weak one will get picked too much buy others.
They only aggresive mostly to their own species.

A juvenile moori here cost around $20 - $30 ... how much did you pay for your moliro? if they must be kept in a school = very costly

Moliro cost $45 each here and other moori cost $50 - $80 each for juvenile.
It's very expensive here. But I know a tropheus breeder that sell them for $30 each. Fish is expensive here. You are lucky in Singapore you practically buy any fish that you want and prices are reasonable. In Australia is very restrict and plus others cost like quarantine check add to the cost.

Buy the way the name of people you like to adopt at the bottom of you post, are they chinese stars?

Hi Art, you got so many types. Do you keep them in colonies. Yes Moliro is pretty plain actually. Basically is black base with red colour. How many tropheus tank do you have? They suppose to be kept in large tank.

Yes, I will put them in 4x2x2 tank eventually. At the moment I am using the tank for my peppermint catfish and angelfish. They will comfortably live in the tropheus tank.

I actually have more tropheus now. Two days ago I got another 3 moliro and 10 ikola. They are still very young 2 - 3cm, the colour still almost all black few showing yellowish colour. So now I have 20 tropheus in the tank.

I will have to consider moving them soon. I think the bigger they get the less they like moving to a different environment.

No you can't mix tropheus with frontosa. They different diet, tropheus cannot be fed meaty diet like worm, cichlid pellet etc. I feed my tropheus with spiriluna flakes which is not enough for frontosa.

Nice fish, I like bemba, black with orange band in the middle.
Cichlid pellet is not recommended for tropheus as it contains to much fat.
It can cause bloat, how long have you have it?

You can feed them osi, wardley or sera flora spiriluna flakes. Only need to feed once or twice a day. Don't feed them too much and stop feeding them cichlid pellet. Ocassionally you can feed them brine shrimp and they also like lettuce and green peas.
