Flow rate for shrimp tank

Dear all....... i was just waondering what is the acceptable flow rate for shrimps........ CRS and Cherry

Currently im running an Atman external canister on my 2 ft tank..... not sure of the flow rate...... but it should be the 3rd smallest canister.......

Apparently the flow is quite strong and sometimes the shrimps are just kinda swept away.......

But if i were to decrease the flow, i was told that that would spoil my canister.......

is that true???

What should i do???

Mine running on Ehiem 2222 connected to chiller, flow rate running at maximum. Reason being that my tank is full of ferns and was afraid that there's no water circulation in dense area thus setting maximum flow. Of course due to strong currents shrimps will be swept away. But some like the current. Braving it by clinging onto ferns and moss. No problems at all. Though some breeders say too strong currents will stress them out. Not sure though that slow flow rate will deteriorate the canister.

My feel for the flowrate in my tank is, as long as the shrimps are able to rest on the subsrate with ease and when swimming, won't go off course, that'll be fine. Of cos, turn to maximum and tune down to gauge the suitable flowrate. Does this answer your question?

What i did was actually to put it at full and then tune down the flow which i thought was acceptable..... shrimps were happy with it.... (I think)....

however.... was told that when i restrict the flow...... somehow that would shorten the life span of the canister as im trying to restrict the out flow whilst the canister is still trying to pump out at the same speed.....

Do i make sense???

yup it makes sense. but no choice. only other way is to change your canister to a slower flow rate. but don't waste your $. just use your existing one. Should be ok.

I run a chiller and Eheim 2028 on a 2 ft planted tank and only have cherry shrimps inside. the shrimp have no problem coping, breeding etc.

do you sponge up the outlet and inlet?

On the inlet I have a larger than normal plastic mesh cover., then on the outlet I use the smallest eheim Lilly pipe as possible,

however this probably increases the intensity of the water exiting rather than increasing the water flow.

so that means you're using a larger diameter pipe on the inlet and smallest on the outlet? Wont this stress out your filter in the long run?
