We know that there is a led light system made by Solaris but I have just found another company selling another led lighting system.

Looks like led might be going mainstream sometime in the future.

from the specification, it mentioned that there are 12 white and 12 blue leds per foot. the light set will be heavier due to the heat sinks and cooling fans. the 2 black grills should be the outlets for exhaust fans.

leds still has some way to go before they become main stream. still too expensive.

need to verify the spectrum of the LED in question to make sure they have sufficient output at the two bands that plants make use of.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

the spectrum has a heavy blue colour bias. generally, white leds are blue leds coated with yellow fluorescent phosphor. other light (of different wavelength) resulting from phosphorescence have peaks less than half of the blue wavelength.

i wondered if they are using the conventional type of LED or those really bright type....

it would be good as LED produces minimal heat.....

they should be using high power leds of 1 watt or more.
while led emit almost no heat in the direction of the light emitted, they do emit a lot of heat from the back. that is why most, if not all, led light have a huge heat sink attached.

I'm all for technological advancement in this hobby BUT the price is a definite hurdle to jump over!

    bleeding edge technology pricing...

it is not so simple to diy lighting fixtures with high brightness leds. these are surface mount devices and will require properly design printed circuit boards and heat sinks. the power supply will need to be designed as well.

I saw the hardware shop at Sim Lim Square selling LED lights connected in stripes recently (about 1.5-2m). Didn't ask about the price though....
