does Sagittaria subulata flower often?

My Sagittaria subulata has been flowering recently... is this common?
it has been growing too rapidly in my 2 feet tank in which i'm growing riccia, java moss and glosso...
its been growing too tall its covering the light for my other plants and spreading too much too...
does anyone have an effective method to trim it without releasing the base fert into the water column?
or to remove them totally without letting out the base fert?

Mine in the 4ft tank flower everyday. During trimming time, I would remove those messy flower stalks leaving those which are still "younger". I also remove younger plants if they are invading other groups of plants.

I recently found a way to thin down the plant by pulling out the older part of the leaves. I described it at this thread Trimming Sagittaria. Can give it a try.

There was an old thread about this.

In addition to above, cut the runners first so you can remove the plants individually. If the runners are buried, pull a plant out slowly until you can see the runner then cut it.

I've noticed Chan at Nature 'tame' his Vals by cordoning them into their own area with a strip of clear plastic.
