PS more info on the tank and how I built it can be found in my blog http://aquasculpture.blogspot.com
My new tank, haven't even finished setting it up but I wanted to share the pictures and hear your comments and opinions.
The dimensions are 20"x20" and 16" high. Was built to fit the space I have and although rectangular tanks are easier to scape I just love cubes.
So here it is:
The hard scape
The planned layout
In the right side I want a simple lawn with hair grass in the back hoping to subdue the rocks and the edge of the path. On the left side I'm continuing the low growth with moss along the edge and then I want to create counter balancing masses of green in the back left. I saw nice examples of Rotala and Didiplis taking the shape of a hill but I'm open to other suggestions of something suitable.
Next is the planting
And the way it is now (a day later...)
Notice I haven't yet put in the plants that are supposed to be in the back on the left. The java fern is there just to add planted mass and will be removed soon. So, it's not quite ready but in a good stage to take in your input...
Danny

Hi Danny,
Welcome to AQ!, I think you did a good job, the java fern does looks out of place(as you said, it's temporal), from your layout plan, like your choice of plants with small leaves, that's good!Looking forward to see how this tank matures.

Overall arrangement is nice, i like it!
Fun reading through your blog, well organised. You certainly have a way in customizing stuffs(DIY), cool!
As for the faunas, intend to keep any? What you intend to keep?
Would like to see how the tank progress maybe about 2 weeks to month time.

The Happiest of people don't neccessary have the best of everything;
they just make the most of everything that comes along their way
When will there be 25 letters in the alphabets?
The blyxa and the java fern are out of place. Blyxa will grow big fast. Would suggest you shift the blyxa behind if you want to use them.
But I like your start. Maybe you will experience with different plant growth and see for yourself. Good luck.
Thanks for the comments, both on the tank and the blog. I was hoping by now I'd already have gotten hold of some Rotala for the back but I didn't have time to take care of that. So, the fern is still there and the rest of the plants are growing very nicely.
The tank is now more or less at a PH of 6, temp is 26C. CO2 is around 200 bpm, I'm using the RedSea 500 reactor which seems to work very well but I can't get the PH lower so either my water is very hard or I have CO2 leaking from the bubble counter. I'm dosing EI and will be doing 30% water changes weekly.
Next week I'm going away for a conference and I think the tank is going to be left as is (except for adding the rotala) until I come back, I wasn't going to prune it before the end of the month but I'm not sure if that's enough or should I wait longer for the plants to feel at home.
AquaObsession, I agree with your point about the Blyxa. I was thinking about that but I don't really want to move it now. It looks as if the leaves are wilting, and although the newer leaves in the middle are looking much better I'd rather leave it and see it survives first before I replant it again.
Regarding the fauna, richietay, I'm going to wait for a few weeks before I add any but I guess the first to go in will be a few amano shrimps and otos. Next, I'll add a school of fish- only one kind but I'm not sure yet which.
So, thanks again for the kind words and I hope to update soon with more pictures.
Danny
