My JeBao (cheap chinese brand) canister filter died after 2 years (though was please when I head most people it only lasts for 1 year! Actually it didn't really die, just teh rubber sealing gasket broke down and there is no replacement parts for it.

So I went out in desperation (after cleaning the liters of water on my floor from the leaking filter), and bought an Eheim 2215. IT was on sale as I am in Taiwan and these usually go for 6000nt and I got mine for 3500nt.

Problem is, my last filter (the dead one) was 1200 L/h. And I was getting problems with algea which I felt was related to poor circulation. I bought the 2215 as I have read many people use it on 3 foot tanks, yet it seems like the water flow is nothing.

Did I make a mistake and buy too small of a filter? Or is it just that I was too used to an over powered filter for my planted tank?

    Hi Campbell,
I'm also using a 2215 on my 3x1.5x1.5 tank[same as yours]. Seem ok, a little on the low side but still ok. Use less of the fine media and clean the filter every 2-3 months and algae will be less of a problem. I use about 170W of lighting. 8 hrs as well.

The one I like the best now is the 2217. Simple and powerful enough for 250L tank.

    THanks.
I will probably set up a new 60 cm tank in the future and use this one on that and replace it with the 2217. Seems underpowered, I will see. Just worry about algae outbrake due to poor circulation.

The Classic series is generally lower powered than the Pro and Pro II series. You might want to consider a 2026 or a 2028 for your tank.

IIRC, you using a CO2 reactor as well? So that needs to take into consideration when choosing your filter.

oops... Didn't notice his signature. But still, 2215 sounds underpowered.

Thanks for the info. Just not in the budget now to buy a new filter so it will have to wait until I can get the 60 cm tank setup and move the filter over. Only problem with this hobby is the upgrades. End up with a lot of used but not used much parts that are hard to sell, so need to find a use for them.
