How do you maintain the pH level?
thanks for your advice skysky =) i'm advising him to keep cheap grade C crs first before moving on to the higher quality one...he's keeping them for his preference only anyway and he actually prefers prominent red instead of the high grade with thick whites, so i think at most he will keep A grade so not so heart pain if he loses a batch =)
from your previous post, it seems your startup cost is very low, and don't need much equipment even for a low maintenance...that's very good news =) i was even thinking of advising him to put 2 HOB filters to reduce maintenance...one purely for biomedia and one for mechanical filtration...glad to hear 1 misc HOB (don't even need to get than eheim one) will do the job and only require once a month water change =) makes me tempted to set one up when i start work next month in my office!

hi illumnae, if you putting in office. i think your breeding success rate will be pretty high. Many successful office setup with 1 ft tank here in this forum.
really didnt do anything to lower the PH as i dont have CO2 and ada soil. did threw in small small pieces of katapang leave, small amount only so that the water wont turn out brown
oh yes, forgot to mentioned about the light and fan. So another $50 to this

if ada soil is used to bring down ph, will it increase the amount of maintenance needed?

every few years need to change
oh ok that's fine i guess, as long as it doesn't increase the water changes requirement or encourage excessive algae growth that's cool =)

well, there are cases where BBA growth is encounter when using ADA soil.. not sure whether that is ADA is the leading factor or not
