I have a 4ft tank with lots of rummy noses, some harlequin, bumblebee fish and couple of other small fish. They share tank with some Yamato and lots of Cherry shrimp (latter breeding themselves like mad).

Bought 3 mountain shrimp some time back. They seemed to be okay, resting on driftwood collecting unseen bits from water flowing in from external filter. Then they seemed to get weak, stumbling around tank.. 1 died abt a month later and the other 2 eventually disappeared for good somewhere in the tank.

I'm wondering if they got any food at all.. the water is fairly clear, and the fish grab anything that falls in immediately.

I'm thinking of getting one more.. before I send another one to its death, any advice on what and how to feed these?
    Thanks

I recalled they feed on live daphnias and other organisms that float in the water. There was a discussion on this in previous threads, I recommend searching for it. I did remember someone was also using fishfood or interpet fry food mix with water and using a syringe to spray at the shrimp, I tried that before, but to no avail. I pretty reserved about getting them as many are endemic to their locality and are not known to be successfully bred in farms or at home, so all of them are wild caught. I am not surprised alot of them are wiped out in our local waters. Hypothetically speaking, I think that they being filter feeders, they cannot live in extremely clean environment.

Being filter feeders, they will hang around the rain bars of your filter. If you worry about their diet, you can feed daphnia as pointed out. Besides that, you can also add very finely crushed flakes too.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Hmm ok thanks for advice everyone.. maybe I won't get after all if not bred in captivity..

Probably look for other shrimp and toss into 2 ft 'luv tank' (sitting under 4 ft one) to try to breed. Went to That Aquarium and Clementi to look at their shrimp. Bought a bag of 10 tiger shrimp from Clementi.. looks like they are all still alive and settled in tank.

Looking for other shrimp that can live in there with them.. what would anyone recommend or recommend against?
