Nice herding...but it will a great pleasure to watch it herds its offspring. Can you video it and share...![]()
Just to share some pictures of my T.candidi female herding her fries. This is actually my 3rd female with her spawn. Had 3 other successful spawn with 2 other females but she is the best mother among them since she was able to care more than 50 fries of her 1st spawn. The 1st female only had about 20 and the 2nd female had a meagre 6 fries. This is another unique species on their own. After close observation, I noticed that they display a certain coloration before and after laying their eggs. And based on this observation, I was able to guess whether the female is guarding her eggs or just merely doing some courtship ritual to entice the male into her cave.
Anyway hope you all enjoy the pictures.
Cheers

Very nice Taeniacara candidi female, nice color and fries look very healthy!.
Missed the good old days, when there are quite numbers of apisto shops that brought in good quality apisto!. Azmi from Ecoculture had brought in Nice Taeniacara candidi from wild and Hong Kong or Taiwan. They are very nice species!.
At the moment Taeniacara candidi is not available in Singapore!.
Hopefully some aqua shop will bring in this species!
Most shops in Singapore is selling the apistogramma species as pair instead of trio, which is the preferred numbers for male and females.
This is one of my breeding pair that i have being keeping...

Now swimming: Plecos and Apistogrammas
Are they willing to sell 2 female or a trio only?
I thought normally LFS in hongkong and Taiwan sells in pair?
Can enlighten me on this.
Thanks

Normally tank bred dwarfs are supplied in pairs only. So the shops will have no choice except to sell them in pairs unless some fatality during shipment resulting some extras. Otherwise it would be difficult to secure extra females.
The other source would be wild caughts. Normally these come in bulk therefore mostly will not be sexed. So it's more like pot luck it could be either way.
But you may try to ask whether the shops are willing to sell in trios as requested but its highly doubtful.
