Would like to ask if i can keep 2tetras together with my cherry shrimps in a tank? Will the tetras go and attack my shrimps?

    My general rule of thumb:
Generally, any shrimps that can fit in a fish's mouth is potential food. Even if they cannot fit the mouth, fishes can still take bits and bites out of them.

Milage may vary. It may be okay if there is plenty of plant cover for the shrimps. Sometimes depending on the specific fishes as well.

Thats right, any sort of fish will try to eat fries as food. I even had my clown killies eat my shrimp fries in one gulp. Probably if your tank is big enough and heavily planted enough, will they be safe. Then again, small shrimps will still be pecked by fishes.

hi everyone, i just bought my cherry shrimps, introduce it into my tank slowly, meaning letting it float for around an hour, then slowly introduce in one by one, adding my tank water into the packet as well...

    my tank as follows:
    -1ft tank
-driftwood, wiremesh with moss, java ferns
-hang on filter with ceramic rings
    -black gravel
    -ketapang leave
What could have been the cause of the deaths, will ceramic rings bring up the pH levels?

Most important is whether the tank water has been thoroughly 'cycled' first (nitrogen cycle) before adding shrimps since they are more sensitive to water parameters than fishes. Takes approx 4 weeks to do so.

What brand of ceramic rings are you using? Some aquarists reported that Mr Aqua ceramic rings do increase the pH.

When acclimitising senstive faunas, perhaps it would be better to use this method.

It cannot be certain if it is the ceramic rings or some other things that is causing the deaths. I presume that you are still new to fishkeeping since you are asking on the setup etc.

I would recommend getting test kits (pH, ammonia, nitrite) just to be sure that the water condition is suitable. I say keep the ceramic rings, test for pH and possibly others. If possible check with your friends what brand these ceramic rings are. Do not introduce any faunas until you are certain your water condition is suitable.

Cycling generally takes about 3 to 4 weeks. If cycled properly, I don't see why not. The setup of the tank must be correct in the first place and there don't seem to be anything that suggests so.

However, since there are casualties, there could be something wrong. Hence, it is suggested to get test kits to check the water conditions before adding anything, especially so for those new into fishkeeping.

    Milages vary.

Quixotic, my tetras were together with the shrimps when all the shrimps started to die one by one, so i guess my water is okie, except maybe for the pH category as my tetras were able to survive...

Shrimps are more sensitive than tetras. Therefore, while the amount of ammonia/nitrite/nitrate is tolerable to your fishes, your shrimps will not take to them as kindly. It is said that if there are problems with the water conditions, the shrimps would be the first to die.

I am not concluding that this is the case, but this is one of the possibilitites. Your ceramic rings affecting the pH is another possibility. Hence, try to do the tests if possible.
