    i'm concerned the wire mesh might actually cut them
    what i did last time for my otos was using a rubber band to secure the stems of leafy vegetables attached to a metal jar cap

    yep DEA , cannot deny that , esp if when doing this device you are not careful in making sure the mesh has no sharp edges.
    One alternative could be like what you mentioned , as well as to silicon the edges of the mesh[:]

    Erm anyone got any advice on what other food to feed plecos?

    Yeah, got the Hikari algae wafers. And tried a slice of carrot yesterday....

    It is still not touching anything... [At least when I am looking]

    Will try a cucumber tommorrow..

    Any other ideas?

    they have those Hikari sinking algae wafers. works wonders with my corydoras and my otos. they got larger sizes for bigger fishes. should work well for plecos. my corys are attracted to the wafers almost immediately after they're dropped into the tank.
