HC was quite uncooperative. It chose to grow in a round thick bush manner instead of creeping and carpetting the bottom. Thus the incomplete lawn.

    Hairgrass has been rather invasive.

Moss from the wood was removed as it could not take the heat and light in the tank and got infested with algae.

The HC looks nice with the hilly effect. How fast does it grows? I'm starting a new tank too with some hairgrass on the foreground. Invasive meaning that they grow faster then HC and overrule the other plants? mmm, maybe I will switch to HC. Saw you've got shrimps in there. Are they friendly towards the HC or hairgrass? Thanks.

Nice tank!!! The driftwood seems interesting. I'm sure once the plants grows it will look even nicer...

I think HC after 3 months onward it gorws pretty fast!

Will the HC grow faster in clumps or spreading on the ground?

Hi, i think your scape is great as it makes the 2 ft looks like a 3 ft tank. Spacious and nice.

    Cheers!

    Thanks for the nice comments.

leeruisheng, invasive as in it grows out of its designated spot in the tank and grows into the hc place. And it spreads real quick! I had to pull them out a few times already. My cherries never harmed my hairgrass or hc. Neither did my 3 inch L114 hiding somewhere in the tank. That little bugger is always hiding when the lights are on.

BTW this setup is around 5 months old, but somehow the HC still prefers to grow in round clumps instead of spreading horizontally like what I had last time.

You're using lapis sand right? Any base fertilizer or gravel insert fertilizer like monster root? Maybe because there's no fertilizers in the gravel that's why not spreading fast. Just guessing though. But since you got quite thick HC, you can spread them manually.

The most likely reason why the HC is not lawning sideways its probably because your lighting is not strong enough..
