Chlorine or chloramine
Hi,
To dechlorinate tap water for water changes for CRS tank (4ft) can I proposed the following. Wonder if it is sufficent? Please kindly advise.
- Top up water in a separate 200L container. Age for 3 days (or longer?) with aeration of the water with air pump using ceramic diffuser(blue).
Can this way remove the harmful chlorine and chlormine in tap water?
Or adding anti-chlorine chemicals is better?
Thanks!

If you do not find it a hassle, why not!
Used to have a spare 4ft tank to house aged water for the shrimp tank(4ft), did not use any anti-chlorine chemicals, so far no problems.![]()

I actually have a Barrel in my store room that I use to age water. That barrel is about 200L water that I use for water change.
I do not use chemical as well. But the water in te barrel age for 4 to 5 days
Yes. Me also using a barrel which had been slice at the centre. I dunno what was contents it was used to store. But I had hence clean it 3 times to ensure "chemical-free" before filling up with water. So keeping my fingers crossed.
Also included a 1200L/h power head to pump up the water into the tank with at a flick of a switch. Just lazy to scoop.![]()

Mine is a blue color barrel bought Near Sim Lim Tower. I also have a power head in it ....![]()
I don't add any chemical at all too. When we WC about 20% weekly, I suppose the concentration will be diluted. For me, chloramine is more harmful and I tried using filtration and UV. So far so good but only can switch on once a week. Anyone tried that before?

i top up straight from the tap very slowly, plus 10 drops of genesis
so far no casualties
