My otocinclus went for the bloodworm, and even SAEs have a liking to it.

I noticed something strange this morning when I was feeding my dwarf puffers with frozen bloodworm. The pair of otocinclus that I keep in the same tank were fighting for the bloodworms that dropped to the substrate! I have visual confirmation that they really bite into those worms and seems to enjoy them. This is the first time I am seeing this 2 normally docile fish fight between themselves and they really went at it to fight for a piece of bloodworm.
Am I the only one with such unique Otos? Am I starving them till they turn omnivore? I do drop in Sera Spirulina tabs now and then but they seldom poke at it let alone fight over it. Could I have gotten a pair of mutant Otos???I thought they only eat algae.
Anyone else has seen this before? And what else of meat protein do you feed your otos?

When will there be 25 letters in the alphabets?

0.o? So that means those species of fishes we think are herbivores might actually be omnivores? Anyone else concur? Next thing I know is someone telling me dwarf puffers are actually herbivores!Wonder why my puffers are ignoring my bloodworms...

most catfishes are omnivores. so that's normal. My otos go for the carnivorous tabs I drop in for my Hypancistrus sp and T.candidi too.

They slurp tubifex like eating noodles.
Becareful of bloat though. It is reported that they get these easily when fed with high protein food too often, though I have not experienced this. My Otos get bloodworms that I fed to other fishes about 3 to 4 times a week.

Woah...thanks for sharing guys...glad this forum is around to help new hobbyists like me who need information like this. There is a flood of information on the web but I am afraid of their accuracy. Best is to get info from experienced hobbyist!
Tubifex...kind of hard to get in Tampines...kind of messy too I think. Hmm how do you keep left over tubifex worms? Fridge? Does it smell?

Not feeding with tubifex anymore. Too troublesome to clean them, so switched to frozen bloodworm.
