Hi, I'm wondering if my oto is sick. I don't remember it looked like that when I purchased it. After my previous tank was infected by blue green algae, only then I noticed that the stomach is bloated. Now after more than a month, it still looks the same way.

By the way, can anyone help to identify which species of Oto I have in the picture? Thanks.

Your oto looks healthy. Standing finnage such as the dorsal. I guess you overfed with algae wafer. This is often seen in many plecos that was caused by too nutritious feeding.

The markings are really interesting. Otos are generally difficult to ID, but that is definitely a healthy looking bulge.

Might very well be infected with dropsy.....It should not be that "fat".

i had a 'fat' oto too, guess it was overly fed. The stomach somehow shrink after i've moved it to another tank which had less algae for it to feed on

Thanks for all that had responded with your view.

I'll do an experiment. Going to buy few more Oto & put them in the same tank. If after a while they grow as fat as the one in the photo, then it's normal. Otherwise, something is not correct .

Well, there are also Otos that don't grow THIS fat. So I wouldn't hastily conclude that this Oto has a problem. If it is eating well and no signs of being sick, then I wouldn't worry.
