Check your PO4 and NO3 levels.

Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
Simon, heard some sources says its a taboo to wash filter, only to be done when absolutely necessary. btw, why do you think washing filter can help with combating algae?
when there's a lot of decaying crap in the tank that contributes to excessive no3/p04 levels it'll help to wash it out, yar?
HI Benny, you got to know the reasons behind all those advices. That's where you learn and make your own judgements.
Each time you clean the filter, you are going to wash away most of the bacteria colonies in the filter that help to covert NH3 to NO2 to NO3. NH3 comes from the fish wastes and other decaying material. NH3 & NO2 are poisonous to fishes. That's why people say do not clean the filter too often.
On the other hand, if your filter has trapped lots of wastes, there will be lots of NO3 produced at the end. Bad for algae control.
However, in an established tank. The bacteria colony is everywhere in your aquarium. Therefore, the impact of cleaning the filter is not so great. Furthermore, the plants are helping to take in NH3.
