r36613's Low budget 180 L planted setup

Here is my first 180 lt aquarium with spec:

- 90cmx50cmx50cm
- 1 Metal Halide Osram 70 watt (7-9 hours)
- DIY CO2 with DIY reactor
- Liquid Fert Macro PMDD, Micro Wondergro dose every 2 days
- Base fert Wondergro + Evergreen.
- WC 30% every week

Looks pretty good.
I like the front parts.
But DIY CO2? I don't really recommend that.
Anyway your tank has a very sudden change from rather open, to very thick (left and right parts). Why don't you try removing part of the plants that overrun the right part? Looks pretty dark there.

please advice me anything about you did not recommend DIY CO2.
I left the right part (hygro. angustifolia) grow big and overrun is to protect anubias from direct light. Any suggestion about this?

i said low budget because i used DIY CO2 with simple DIY bubble counter and DIY reactor, DIY sump filter (using trash bin), PMDD macro fert and lokal micro and base fert (good quality).



and .... it looks like a mess with everything coming out from and beside the aquarium.

First of all I'd like to thank Mr Reggie for having faith and support in my product line (wonder-gro) all the way.

He mentioned "low budget" for around here it is not so cheap and not so easy (at least at the town where he stay) to get pressurised CO2 and the necessary acessories. Just to share, initially he intended to learn aquascaping, so he started the easy, low budget route. I'm sure now he is planning to get a pressurised system very soon in the future.

My opinion : you are doing great with that 70W metal halide (hey, you forgot to mention that the lamp is also of low budget, originating from shop lamp) and even though going with DIY CO2.
Perhaps you want to move that agustifolia and the concerned anubias to your other, bigger tank. Pick some smaller growing plants in their place, so the overall tank would look neat.
(My own tank is now having the same problem but I've got nowhere to dump the plants to )

- cryptocoryne tropica sp
- cryptocoryne wendtii brown
- hygrophilia angustifolia
- anubias barteri
- anubias nana

maybe in near future, i will do small change on the setup.

OMG... I have C. wendtii "red" in my 1ft tank. Moreover, it in the centre.

Thought that it will grow up to 10cm tall max.

I give one of the best local base fertilizer and with Metal halide, routine liquied fertilizer and co2 .. sure it will grow big.

Bro, it seems you make good use out of the fert products I supply to you and I'm very thankful that you are willing to share the happiness and result with all of us.

I can see massive growth and they all looks healthy and relatively algae free, a sign that you've been taking care of all aspects.
Keep up the good work!

*ps : maybe it is time for you to consider minor scaping by moving all the overgrown plants into another tank, or perhaps sharing/selling them off.

Dont have to worry as average wendtii takes time to grow, especially when given "as is" treatment. A good boost using good root tab will help growth rate significantly, important if you need that huge buch effect.

How high do you keep the MH above water? How do you cool the water?

How high do you keep the MH above water? How do you cool the water?

It's about 40 cm above water, on at 3pm-9pm. And I'm using 1 fan 24 hour to keep temp 24-27.
