i presume the led colour is white. it will not be as effective as dedicated light tubes designed for plants because the light is blue dominant. is usable for plants but beware of colour shifts.
as above.. as im setting up a filterless tank for shirmps and moss i will be using LED for my 20cmX10cmX20cm (LxBxH)
led is not those sold in LFS than require plugs.. its a 10cm connect LED with 12 LED got 2 of them means 24led connect through my computer as no plug left.. all used by my computer and stuffs..
my question is.. will led consider as lighting sold in LFS like FL or PL? will it help the moss to grow well?
or is it just a useless lighting ?
thanks

yup.. the colour of the LED will be white.. thanks bro
keep us posted....i too the other day was thinking getting a bunch of ultra bright white LEDs to add to my tank....
I think they have those 1 Watt LED for aquarium plants. It's super bright - was told by my friend in that industry - but I haven't actually seen them yet. Seems to be quite expensive since demand is low and product is still too new.
Moss doesn't require intense light. I think the concept would be quite nice. Please do post some pics when you set it up. Thanks
hi guys.. set up already.

doubt that there are leds for aquarium plants. most, if not all, led makers are focusing on general illumination, signage and automotive markets. aquarium market is too small to be in their radar map.
prices will not be low as led lighting is considered an emerging market opportunity.

Wow, nice and neat.
By the way, the LED lights I was talking about can be seen here:

You're right about them not being as cheap as commercial LED.

thanks luenny bro.. those long strech of LED are considered ultra bright Led that can be bought at Sim lim square..
my brother(who helped me do this LED) told me that those LFS that sell 1 LED are normal cheapo LED that are not ultra or super bright one..
from what i know.. the 24 led im having now is at least 10 times cheaper den getting 24 sigle cheapo led from LFS
just wondering, how long can these led last and do you have the circuit diagram how to do this lighting? any capacitor or whatsoever to protect and prolong the lifespan of the led? i'm thinking of adding these LED as additional to my new light......
Interesting! But perhaps you could experiment with using an overhead contraption so that the illumination if more even throughout the tank.
Er... is that a picture of a huge clump of fuzz algae?

Sheesh.... work is really keeping me away from my hobby

lifepan of led depends on the operation temperature of the led. as long as it is well ventilated, they can easily last > 10000hrs.
usually, a led circuit is a simple current limiting topology. so you'll need to know the nominal operating current of the led as well as the output voltage of your power supply.

any good circuit to share?
