I was trying to investigate the cause of green water in my tank when I noticed that the flow rate in my tank wasn't as strong as it used to be. Also I noticed that there are some whitish stuff that sticks to my hose leading to and from the filter. I squeezed the hose slightly and the next moment, white flakes appeared in my tank. The squeezing dislodged the whitish stuff that has been sticking to the hose.

Can AQ experts help to identify what is this whitish thingy and the cause? It only appear on the hose but not the rainbar, reactor, etc. Filter and tank is pretty clean.

FYI, the tank is about 4+ weeks old. Eheim 2026 is a new set.

Do a search for bioslime. Its a deposit of bacteria that builds up in pipings. It is one of the reasons copper piping and pvc is used in householp mains supply. Copper and cholrine (in PVC) retards the growth of bioslime. I'm not sure of any harmful effects though.

I do experience this too in my tank too.

I have white cotton wool-ish "algae" appearing on my black rubber suction cups only. I suck them off during WC, but they return after couple of days later.

I will check out this bio slime thingy from AQ forum and the net. Thank you LoneRider for providing the term.

If this stuff builds up within a month, I will have to clean the tubing every month? I can leave it alone but unfortunately it's affecting my flow rate. Any preventive measures to minimise its built-up?

Me too. I just wipe it off with my fingers about every month.
