    Hi Apollo,

You're absolutely right that my 1.5 ft tank is not a good basis for comparison. What's more, it was a bare tank. You have good cause for concern.

I finally start to see what your ID guy is proposing (I hope)... so it will be a sort of hang on the wall type of cabinet right? Much like the kitchen cabinets in some homes, only not that high up, above the cabinet, will be your tankl, in the cabinet will be your equipment. If my description is correct, I will also be concern on whether the base of the cabinet is going to hold the weight of your canister filter and chiller if you have), don't forget they will be filled with water when operational and will be heavy as well, and unlike the top of the cabinet which is supported by the angle iron, the base of your cabinet isn't.

Next question is, how high is this hanging cabinet going to be above the floor? If the height is not alot, then.. forgive me for asking.. what's the point?

You will have a better sleep at night with a simpler stand on floor cabinet + tank, it will also give you the flexibility of shifting the tank if the need arises in the future.

    Just my views.

    Hahaha..

That is what i wanted until he gave me this crazy idea that if its cabinet on floor, might as well buy off the shelf. Dont need him ! Haha..

The idea to hang it so that the floor below the cabinet can be clean and mop. Wont be having any chiller in the cabinet anymore because this tank will be placed in the walk way infront of the main door.

Dont want the tank to be too deep to block the walk way. Therefore the tank is 1ft width, cant hold any chiller in the cabinet.

Dont have to worry about this, structural steel angles comes with various thickness and sizes, they can carry very very heavy weight, few hundred Kg is really not that heavy. Is just a matter of designing it correctly.
Alternatively ask your contractor to use Steel hollow section which is asthetically more pleasing and can carry heavier load.

As can be seen from the Germany's tank, there are many steel fin plates at the underside of the tank. That is to reduce stress on the glass. So again , the concern of the glass thickness for your tank is not a issue.

Perhaps you should insist your contractor to get PE endorsement on the setup. but you may have to pay additional to the contractor.

    regards
