Depends alot on what species of Apistogramma you keeping. If you have the species with strong and large mouths/jaws, then even the adult cherries will be at risk.
was wondering if placing a colony of 10-15 adult cherry shrimps would work as a constant source of live food (shrimplets) for apistos? i've heard these shrimps breed like bunnies with little to no additional requirements and would thus seem like a perfect renewable live food source =)

I'm keeping a pair of juv caca triple reds...are those ok? =)
Think you got to forget about the idea of keeping cherry shrimps with A.Caca...They will never leaves past the next day..

i already have them acclimitized to tetrabits complete =) just wanted them to have a good supply of live food as treats and eventually to induce spawning
you can breed cherry shrimp at different tank.

Not unless your cherry shrimps grows as big as those XL size Yamatos. They will become food for most apistos. No cherries, malayans have ever survived in my apisto breeding tanks.
Unless your tank is planted lushly, maybe you can see some survivers as explained by sunnydaze. By the way, have you seen apistos hunting fishes in the night when most of the fishes are sleeping? I have... Victims was a school of 20 boraras.

haha do they really do that? my apistos are still juv, and the pencilfish are about the same size as them, some even bigger than them...so they don't really dare to go disturb the pencils...all other fish in my tank (Albino bristlenoses x2 and pencilfish x10) are bigger than my apistos so sometimes i even see the pencilfish chasing the apistos!
i'm thinking of removing the BNs though because they compete with my apistos for the caves...i see the BNs in the cave more than the apistos...that's a problem right?

When the apistos are small. Its alright. But when they are adult sizes, thats where trouble starts brewing...i wonder if you can train the apistos to be shrimp friendly since young...![]()

Isn't it cheaper to just use small malayan shrimps? These days, you get 100 for S$10 and they are very tiny.
But be warned!! Fishes have choked on shrimp and die. My Betta pugnax did just that. What a shame!!
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
oops sorry to hear about your betta Benny
will the tiny malayan shrimps cause choking too? i was thinking of using cherry shrimp as i heard they breed like crazy, so i thought i could just let the apistos eat the shrimplets and i'll have a renewable supply as the adults just keep reproducing lol...was thinking the breeding rate might allow me to give my apistos 1-2 live food treats a week keke =)
