I have been looking through old posts about cooling fans. I noticed Profantec is strongly recommended. I have called a couple of LFS and they seem to stock every other brand but.

Is Profantec no longer being manufactured or merely out of stock?

One of the LFS recomended Jebo. Is that as good? Should I continue to search for Profantec and/or wait? Any other brands worth considering?

    Appreciate comments.

    i recommend mr cool
their fans are those type that hang on side with a funnel to direct the air to the top of the water surface.

    pros:
    1) looks better than normal fans.
    2) takes up less space and less noticeable - great for minimalists
    3) cooling effect is good - find that it lowers on average 1degree more than normal fans for me
    4) quieter operation than most - very impt for me as i keep tanks in my room (won't disturb sleeP)

    cons:
    1) pricy - the mr cool 100 and 200 series for nano up to 2 ft tanks cost 30++ each
    2) not suitable for bigger tanks unless you buy multiple ones - could be a gd idea except cost-wise

Many thanks for info. Why can I find them? Where did you buy yours? Don't suppose the regular LFS stock them.

If you cannot find Profantec, go for Sunon. I haven't seen the Profantec recently as well. Sunon fans are cheap and powerful. Not very noisy as well.

confirm that yishun aquastar and y618 stock them
think y618 only stock the bigger version
for the small one for nano setups will have to go aquastar

NA also has them if I remember correctly
but it has been mths since i last went NA so no guarantees

i have tried both sunon n profantec brands
in terms of noise generation, mr cool is definitely quieter in my opinion

Is mr cool the thin type with 2 fans and can only be set blowing straight down? Might have a problem with it blocking the lights.

No, it is similar to this. Hangs from the side of the tank.

no blocking of lights as you can set it at one unobstrusive corner

From what I have read around, there are a few brands which look and feel the same.

Didn't he post his comments in post #19? He found another similar brand Cyber Aqua, model Mr Cool 100 and mentioned a high pitched whine.

I am using Mr Cool 200 but didn't find the high pitched whine as annoying and found it to be pretty quiet instead. I guess milage varies for different users.

yeah.. sometimes its a matter of individual opinion
i own both the 100 and 200 series (blue and black ones)
    both pretty fine imo
quiet enough for me that both are in my room but i sleep with no problems

Hi ! Anybody knows which LFS in S'pore sells this fan? Roughly the price too- still $50 to $60?

According to the other thread, it can be found formerly at "Sam Yick's". Sam Yicks' is 'Sam's Pet Shop' at Marine Parade hawker centre?

If you mean the blue or black ones, I saw them last week at Y934 (Aquastar at Blk 934 Yishun Central 1). The blue is the smaller at about $30+ (if I remember correctly) and the black about $40. The blue is rather small and the shopperson (a lady) pointed to a small display tank (maybe 1 ft by 0.5 ft) saying it was more suitable for that.

I saw several so probably still available.

blue one's for 1feet and below tank sizes
black one's good for up to 2 feet

though i use the bigger black one for my 1ft cube also
i believe the small one was sufficient for a 1ft cube but wanted the black color for erhmm aesthetic purpose

its surprisingly pretty strong so get ready to top up plenty of water
