How did you introduce your Yamatos into the tank? The tank water could have been contaminated. Either from dirt from the plastic bag or the water that came with your yamatos.

Hi shrimp lovers,
ok I 've got cherry shrimps which I placed in a 'baby' tank with holes to the main planted tank with fishes...they r are doing ok...recently my wife bought 2 mountain shrimps at S$3/- each (huge buggers man, 4cm!). All of them survive.
Then I bought 5 yamato prawns (1.5cm each) & threw them into the tank (without them getting used to the temp) & I bought a fan. The fan cooled down my normal tank temp of 31 to 32 deg C. It cooled down to 30 deg C.
My goodness, my mountain prawns & Yamato prawns are lying face up motionless! Some kicked back & swam but continued to be the same when I picked them up. My mountain prawns are dead, my Yamato slowly dying!
Is it the temp change? That's the only thing I change before the deaths. Yamato maybe becoz because I did not customize them to the water temp but the mountain prawns??? Then what about my Cherry shrimps who not affected?
Regards,
Az

Sheesh.... work is really keeping me away from my hobby

As mentioned, it could be a combination of things, acclimitisation of the shrimps, contaminated water from the bag, temperature of 30 degrees seems a little on a high side, lack of dissolved oxygen etc. All these could have also contributed to the demise.
The reason why it is affecting some and not the rest is that, different individuals react differently in different situations. Your water condition may not be THAT bad to kill all of them, but it may be bad enough to kill some of them.
Don't let this discourage you, but I would suggest to do much much more reading on the proper care of shrimps so that you would be more equipped to keep them successfully. Good luck.
hi bro! i'm no expert but have you checked the ammonia? I'm just wondering if the dead yamatos, or even the water from the purchase fouled up your water..

seems like the shrimps was suffering shock from Temperature as well as water conditions since you threw them both directly into the tank from the bag

Basic shrimps like yamatos and cherries are easy to keep alive once you understand their needs. I learnt mine the hard way and many died in double digits due to water poisoning from bad ceramic rings (i found out eventually), but now the remaining ones are doing well and cherries are breeding.
