They are relatively common and I find them much more attractive and active than the rams...

They are easily found in LFS. I used to keep them and they grow quite big

Same here. Very easy to sex them. Both 2 pairs from Biotope when the ex- owner Charles was still in the trade.

Hard to tell like that. Easier if see the fish. Was trying my luck that time since Charles could not help me sex so decided to do it myself to observe. So far quite accurate.

haha so in future if i want to keep a pair (i've read alot about them on other forums) i got to jio you out to help me ah joopsg! haha...i don't even know which LFS carries them

i'm starting to plan for my 2nd tank of dwarf cichlids already, due to work commitments and other issues will probably only start it in july/august...but i'm keeping a lookout of possible types to keep, so far i'm thinking of apisto. Apistogramma agasazii or bolivian rams lol...don't know what others would be pretty yet suitable for a newbie like me =)

but these bolivians sure are cute...they look very different from normal rams don't they? do they have a more colourful character too like apistos?

How about Checkerboard?? I also can try to he;lp you to sex them. They are gravel digger. They dug crater when they spawn unless you provide stone slab for them to spawn. But my pairs used to do rescape themselves

    Questions for the experienced bro/sis..

    - Can the Bolivian rams coexist peacefully with pygmy corydoras or rummy nose tetras?
    - How many of them can I keep in a 1.5ft tank / 2ft tank?

Yes they will. Unless they go into breeding mode.

The poor rams!! The breeding pair was trying to defend their patch!! This will cause them much stress and sometimes, they will even eat up their brood as a result of this disturbance.

Thanks bro for the info! I must go find a nice secular corner for my coming Bolivian ram tank. Won't want to cause too much stress to them.

I read from other forums that they are OK with neutral pH water- is that right? or a few drops of blackwater is better?

Most of the Bolivian rams you get at LFSes are farm bred and are easily acclimatised to our water conditions, so neutral pH waters would be ok.
The addition of blackwater would simulate their natural habitat with low pH, therefore would be better.

I would keep 1 pair but i tried 2 pairs in a ft tank..
interesting to see the 2 pairs taking care of the broods together.
