Went from gold fish in a jar to this new hobby in one afternoon, then went to the web after setting up my tank and discover this whole crazy insane amazing planted tank ADA thingy. So here it is, posted, my 1st attempt, will try to get some hair grass/ HC carpet in the front area. Also may get some small shrimps to liven up the tanks, now only have 5 small fish.

I do like mini tanks, would like to upgrade to the ADA 20cm cube, get some depth and extra height, dont mind loosing an inch width, any ideas where I can get it? ADA seems to only have the 30cm cube now. By the way, I am in USA, California.

    Any suggestions, criticism, etc welcomed!

    Cheers,
    H

maybe you should choose smaller leaves plants, it will make your tank look bigger

Agreed, i'd also suggest saving some money and having a custom tank made from your local fish ship if they don't already have 20cm cubes. ADA tends to be extremely expensive.

Also, try not to have too much livestock in such a small tank. 5 harlequins is already pushing it a little. oh and don't forget to dose fertilizers to help the plants remove the ammonia and nitrates.

i also think harlequin is a little bit too big for your tank.. maybe using those small boraras or rasboras..

If you really want ADA though, it should be pretty easy to order. Try http://www.adgshop.com/

You might want to raise your water level higher so that evaporation doesn't take place so quickly. I find water evaporates fast in a tank with lots of surface movement.

This is kind of out of topic, but I find your tank scape very similar to this nano tank pic I once saw before in a Tetra brochure...

I think Microrasbora spp. is more suitable instead of Rasbora spp. Rasbora spp. generally grow much larger, definitely not suitable for nano tank of this size.

Found an ADA retailer, Aqua Forest on Fillmore in San Francisco, just spend a whole afternoon and evening uprooting entire tanks and change to ADA amazon soil, new plants (smaller leaves), new ideas. Keeping the fish tho, none of my friends are into aquariums. Will post new pics in a few days, patience is a virtue I must grow within me now...

It's good to have something wonderful to look forward to

    Replanting Tank 2.0

Ok, finally replanted the tank. Changed the substrate and plants.

Got lighting now, using liquid CO2 & liquid fertilizer. Water is not murky (was vey careful when adding water and during planting). HC seems to be doing well.

Currently on day 4. Picture is from Day 2.

Just be mindful that without a large enough number to form a school, they tend to hide alot.... and I mean alot. I had 5 in a 9 inch and was so flustered as I could not even see them... even after 1 month, they were shy. Eventually moved them to a 1.5ft with neon tetras and only then they came out.

    Alloz there~!

I am new too~! Anyways, I am not sure if you are still keeping Harlequin rasboras as seen in your first picture but they are know to jump so do keep a lookout if they jump out or lowering the water level. My Harlequin jumps every once in a while, especially when they pass through the bubbles from the air filter. kekeke...
