    Dear all,

Need advise on an appropriate lighting for my 2x1.5x1 tank. No ferts or C02. Just plain low tech with moss and java ferns on DW.

Use FL lighting instead of PL. PL gives more light output than FL for the same wattage so you don't want that.

    Thanks lee and squee.

However I would like to ask, what's gonna happen if I get a PL light? high output = ?

And should I take note of the tube spectrum? 6400k? or 10000k?

    Cheers.

Too much light for a low tech set-up is a hotbed for a host of algae problems. I recommend not going higher than 36W.

I grow crypts nicely with an 18W FL in a 5 plan tank. Don't forget base fertilizer if you want rooted plants.

Thank you all for the replies.

However regarding the spectrum, I read somewhere in this forum that..at 10000k, it will not encourage plant growth..is that correct?

    Cheers.

    i tried lights from 6500k to 7200k, 8000k and now 10000k
doesnt seem like any great difference to me
only difference i see is the how the tank's colors show out

i believe the difference is in the pentration power of the light. I was told by a LFS(now close down already) that the higher the kelvin, the better the pentration power. Can anyone justify this?

If its 2ft low tech..then just use a PL 24 watt or a FL 20watt.. should do fine.. colour temperature don't need to bother too much... anywhere between 6k to 8k is fine... i prefer not using 10k lights.. its just a personal preference..
