    Hi all snail lovers,

I found this snail big & healthy (the pic showing a whitish snail on a lava rock) all of a sudden in my workplace tank! Where did it come from & if it came from the plants that I buy, I sure missed it for the 1st few weeks...only when it grew this size that I realize!!! Anybody know the name of this species?

Next, I bought 2 button snail (I think). It was active for a few days but suddenly 1 of them started to slow down & stayed still. The next one followed but whenever I touched them, they'd moved. Soon it didn't at all & today I saw the inside came out indicating they are dead! Why? I thought they just eat algae? Does temp play a part too?

    Regards,
    Az

I think they need alkaline conditions to keep its shell healthy. So it wont do well in pH lower then 7 levels.

The ones with the horns are possibly the freshwater nerites, Clithon diadema. The rest are pouch snails.

ya, occasionally i realise my snails stay in one spot for days and when i actually flip them over, i realise they are dead, is it just the alkaline conditions they need?

I got few of the snails, the one with horns. Well, as i was told, they were brackish, so hardly can breed in fresh water. But so far, they were ok, just die few of it. The rest are going strong up to day..bout few month.

Most of the nerites are brackish water, so when these snails are identified as nerites, they immediate associate them with brackish water, which is probably not true for these nerites. These ones are probably not brackish, but freshwater.

Quixotic, thanks for the info. Usually I tought they were brackish. Well, I seem to be having hard time keeping them alive. Today, I found out 3 of them die! Sigh....pretty sad. :-(
