I think they are similar product; they provide a big surface for bacteria to reside on.
I believe bacteria house refers to those whitish dry dog-poo-looking media.
If so, those cost a bomb, popular with people who keep arowana and koi.
Was reading illumnae's on 'Is Biohome necessary?' Personally I have not use it before and upon more research, the term bateria house came up. What are their difference? How do you use them?
Personally I'm using ceramic rings...
An advance thanks for teaching me...

Thanks Nicky. I've seen those 'doggy's poo' at lfs, so that's what they are....humm.
How about the housing, are they the same? How about effectiveness? Would you need a faster flow rate to use them?
I have not tried any of these expensive media for my biofiltration, but I do know that my Eheim substrate (not pro) was actually working well for 8 years with only tank water flush whenever I service my canistor. I realised that when I decided to trash them away few months back for some ultra cheap fiberglass rings and immediately my ammonia spiked and cause a massive green water. Now I'm using their new Eheim substrate pro, which is basically the same as the first, but only comes in round shapes instead of irregular rocky shapes. Eheim substrate pro is priced very well and it works.
But for heavy duty bio filtration for ponds or extremely large fish tank, I would invest in those dog poo biomedia
As for biohome, I would rather spend my money more wisely on Eheim substrate, which yields the same results, if not even better. Pardon me as biohome to me is all marketing gimmicks.
