Christel Kasselmann's books. Do a search, I am sorry I can't recall the name now. Here's one of them.
The new Aquarium Plant Handbook by Oriental Farm is also a very good (and much cheaper) reference.
Hi bro & sis, I wish to create a list of good reading materials on freshwater planted tank. Would appreciate any recommendations on this matter. I'll start with some I have read. Feel free to comment. Thanks in advance.
1) Ecology of the Planted Aquarium - Diana Walstad (Non CO2, low tech method)
2) The big Dennerle guide
3) Greg Watson's Dosing Strategy Guide - http://www.aquaticplantnews.com (Beginner's guide to dosing)
4) Aquarium Plants (Creation & Maintenance) - Christel Kasselmann
5) Aquarium Plant Handbook - http://www.orientalaquarium.com/ (plant recognition manual)
6) Plants for your Aquarium - Wolfgang Gula
7) Aquarium Plants Manual - Ines Scheurmann (Available in NLB)
The Optimum Aquarium - Kaspar Horst and Horst E. Kipper (Intermediate and advanced)
9) Guide to Aquarium Plants - Barry James
10) Encyclopedia of Aquarium Plants - Peter Hiscock (Available in NLB)

Oh yes...I second the Aquarium Plant Handbook by Oriental Farm. Good references indeed, used by most lfs and farms too.![]()
The Aquarium Plant Handbook by Oriental Farm? Available at C328, NA?
How much cheaper (%) compared to Dennerle or Kasselmann?
I'm interested too. Any idea anywhere in the east do they sell?

Thanks for sharing, Budak & Ah ZhaN.
I'll update the thread as more suggestions/recommendations come in.
Cheers,

There are another two books from Taiwan that quite good too. I cannot remember the names, but one is a hardcopy while the other is softcopy and cover is green with red words. Some shops (especially those in Taiwan or Hong Kong or even Malaysia) only know chinese names, and so these books will come in handy.
Let me go check and post again.
Some useful links on books:
Oriental's Aquatic Plant Handbook: http://www.tropica.com/article.asp?t...aristic&id=562
Christel Kasselmann's Aquarium Plants: http://www.tropica.com/article.asp?t...aristic&id=536
Diana Walstad's Ecology of the Planted Aquarium: http://www.tropica.com/article.asp?t...aristic&id=315
The other articles on Tropica's site are also quite useful.

Somehow, I found this to be a relative good and easy read. Not in depth, but a good introduction. This book advises the aquarium hobbyist on how to create an underwater plant paradise. Besides adding beauty to any tank, properly selected and cultivated aquarium plants are functional. They provide shelters and hiding places for fish, and also remove some substances from the water that are toxic to fish. The author suggests specific plants for freshwater aquariums, provides step-by-step guidelines for aquarium design and planting, and offers advice on plant care. Full-color illustrations throughout.

Title: Aquarium Plants Manual
Author: Ines Scheurmann
Paperback: 93 pages
Publisher: Barron's Educational Series; 1st English language ed edition (September 1, 1993)
Language: English
ISBN: 0812016874
Product Dimensions: 7.8 x 6.5 x 0.3 inches
Price: S$13.74
From: Books Kinokuniya, Times the Bookshop, MPH and good pet shops.
From Barron's web site:
My comments:For experienced hobbyists and beginners, here are short profiles on more than 40 different plants combined with details on selecting and maintaining water plants. There's even a section on how plants and fish interact in an aquarium. Ninety striking full-color photos.
A beginner's book really. Does contain a lot of good information, but not presented properly, especially in terms of layout.

Now out of print publication that is difficult to come by. Something that the intermediate and advance plant tank aquarists will appreciate but not necessary agree.

Encyclopedia of Aquarium Plants by Peter Hiscock.
I found this a good reading material for beginners. It is available @ Kinokuniya. NLB also has a copy of this book.
Happy reading.

Hi Guys,
Could I request your opinions on the following two books by Christel Kasselmann?
(1) Planted Aquariums: Creation and Maintenance
(2) Aquarium Plants
I was wondering whether the material in these books overlap. Would it be worth it to get both books or just one of them. If one of them, which one would you recommend? Thanks!![]()

It has been almost a year since we first talk on this topic.
Anyone has anything to update? Obviously, I did not read much for the past 12 months.
Cheers,
